Toowoomba East State School Chess Club is held every Tuesday lunchtime. The club participates in the Toowoomba Individual Chess Championships and the Toowoomba Teams Chess Championships.

The players can be either boys or girls from years two to six. Special consideration can be given to younger players from lower grades. The players can be beginners or experienced. The students play and learn the rules and moves of chess in a supportive environment.

Toowoomba East State School has an Extension Robotics program for Years 5 and 6. The program will involve programming Mindstorm Lego NXT robots in a variety of different ways. This will culminate in the students competing at the regional Robo Cup held at the University of Southern Queensland in July.

Due to resourcing and time constraints, there will only be 16 places available for each year level involved. Within these 16, the goal is to have an equal balance of boys and girls. The successful applicants will be selected based on their OPI maths data and science data of previous years.

The program will run at lunchtimes on Tuesday and Thursday for Semester One.
